I simply don't have the words to describe his "owners"-- if you go to the original journal, there are updates, and he is doing better, thank heaven.

A good samaritan found this cat today in a gutter by Clark Park, half dead. He is now at the Cat Doctor with a body temperature of 90 (normal is 102) and blood PCV of 8. The Cat Doctor housecat, Diamond, is currently donating blood to save his life. During the exam, the vet found that this cat has a microchip. When called, his "owners" reported that he was acting sick, so they put him outside. If this makes you as angry as it makes us, please channel your anger in one of two ways: visit our website at www.citykitties.org and make a donation to help us pay for his care, or share this post and encourage others to do so.

Watching the TV footage of the earthquake in Japan, I'm just stunned and horrified. That kind of devastation is incredible.

I'm praying as hard as I can.

ON, WISCONSIN!

This week was the week of whine and wail and moan! I had great plans for it and none of them came to pass!

It was warm, warm as in temperatures in the forties and fifties F., so I thought I'd get to the barn and ride Dancer a lot. Instead, all the tremendous amount of snow melted, the humidity soared, and my sinuses (which had been pretty infected, requiring an antibiotic last month), got horribly inflamed. I was in bed four days with my eyes nearly swollen shut, and my head pounding with sinus headaches! I had to start back on the Flonase I was prescribed last month, and it didn't really take effect till today. Major suckage.

Of course, just for added fun, my period decided to show up, with tremendous cramps and a migraine. This did NOT help matters.

I wanted to have fun this week. I had it all planned out. I could barely make it out to buy groceries and get my prescriptions.

Crap! Crap! Crap!

It was cold today, but not as cold as yesterday! It was very sunny out too, which only makes it seem more cruel. Grr... but it's supposed to warm up over the weekend. :)

Tuesday, my sister was in town and we went to the mall and to the Cheesecake Factory. We always end up eating at the Cheesecake Factory because my sister loves their grilled salmon with steamed spinach (ew!!!). I had the smaller sized Bistro Shrimp pasta, which is supposed to be a very caloric dish; but I always get the smaller serving and I can't ever finish that, anyhow!

Then we went shopping. I got a Lancome lipstick and gloss, which came with a free gift. Also a Tarte Amazonian Clay blush and Provocateur Shimmering powder. The Tarte things were so new, they hadn't been unpacked! The Sephora clerks know me by name and were very nice, bringing the testers out and letting me play with the brand new goodies.

Today I had a dental appointment for a cleaning, check-up, and X-rays. My dentist has been my dentist since I was 16-- I don't want to think how long that is! Anyway, I didn't have any cavities. :)  I then went to the grocery store and got the stuff for a taco-type casserole for supper (very good). The store I went to has baked goods from several of the best bakeries in town, so I also splurged on a yummy-looking chocolate cupcake and a raspberry muffin, which I'm saving for breakfast. The cupcake, however, is calling my name now!

I've been riding more lately, thank heavens! The heat has been so ghastly here, I've had trouble with the stupid asthma--short of breath, heart palpitations, and whatnot.

Dancer is such a wonderful horse! I've been trying to get out to the barn at least twice a week, but during the heat, it's best to ride in the early morning and I am NOT a morning person! Once I get there, though, I always have such a good time. Everyone's friendly and there's not a lot of Drama Queens the way there was at the Other Barn (not the barn Tiki lived at, the other barn I took lessons at). And Dancer...

Such a wonderful boy! I never thought about having a grey horse; I always liked bays. So what did I end up with??? LOL! It's a pain because he loves to sleep with his head in his pee, but then as Anne (trainer) says, "All horses are dirty". It forces me to experiment with various spot-cleaners, though.

In other news, my sister's been driving me crazy with a family matter involving our brother. It's been incredibly stressful and I finally pointed out to her she's been obsessed with it and she needed to do what was possible and then DROP it. I mean, she was calling me six or seven--or even more--times a day.

I did go to the State Fair with her, though, and that was fun. Over 60 foods on a stick, plus the famous (infamous?) Krispy Kreme cheeseburger, which I did NOT try. :D  I never knew how susceptible my sister was to the sales pitches of the various vendors... she would be as if hypnotized by the shpiel. Honestly. She watched the one for the hand-powered food processor/grinder/grater twice in a row, which amazed me. Even more amazing, she almost bought one!

Finally got some cool weather again tonight. The cats and I are enjoying it very much.

Remember, our state motto is "Forward!", not "Backward"! This is important; remember it come November!

I live in a good-sized city and often travel to a nearby large city that I also love. I definitely love city life. However, I own a horse, and naturally he must live in a rural or at least suburban area (I board him currently).

In a perfect world, I'd have my special paradise: a city where I could keep my horse at home and ride him around town! The grounds of my house would be large enough for him to graze on; he would have a lovely stable; I'd have a nice indoor ring as well as an outdoor. I could go out to the stable last thing at night and talk to him and give him a treat; I could ride whenever fancy struck me. It would be my bliss.

This perfect-world city would accommodate all the horse-lovers and have stables with attendants everywhere, so we could ride our horses all over and know they'd be safely cared for while we did our errands, shopped, or dined. While I'm dreaming, automobile drivers would ALWAYS give us the right-of-way and NEVER do asshat-ish things like rev engines or honk horns loudly or squeal tires, to try to frighten the horses. Oh, and the golf courses would be stables and show grounds and horse parks--think of the lovely, lovely courses you could build!!! :D

Parks in general would be loaded with bridle paths!

Oh, I want it now! I want to be able to ride my horse to the mall! :) :) :) ;)

Look!

It's the rare and elusive Calico Cat, finally caught on film!

I made a cake-mix peach cobbler tonight... I had a migraine all day and I wanted comfort food. The cats LOVE the smell of it when it's baking and hang around the kitchen, meowing and dancing when I check on it.

Anyhow, when it was done, I took it out and put it on a rack to cool. Then ate. Mm! For not really "baking", it's good!

Evidently, Buster thinks so, too, because about a half an hour afterward, I looked up and he was busily licking at it!

(I trimmed that part off, just so you know.)

I got so much done already this morning, and I'm NOT a morning person!

I took Skittles, the cat I inherited from my mom, to the vet. I think she has a UTI. The vet took a urine sample and it had a lot of blood in it, so he gave her a long-acting antibiotic shot. This cat was a feral kitten my mom tamed, so giving her pills or liquid is literally impossible... the minute I opened the cat carrier when we got home, she flew down the basement stairs and God only knows where she is. The vet also drew blood for a panel. so I'm to call on Monday and find out how she's doing otherwise. He remarked, however, that she looks really good for a cat her age (16).

I returned some library books that are  (gasp!) overdue. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we librarians are probably the worst people in the world for getting books back on time. So sue me! At least they're back!

I then went to the bank and took care of some stuff and then went to the grocery store to pick up a couple of things. "Things" included a fried chicken breast... the deli ladies had just taken some out of the fryer and put them out and they smelled so good, I couldn't resist. The fact that I hadn't eaten any breakfast had a lot to do with it. Of course, the cats, except for Skittles who's in hiding, insisted I share with them.

It's still drizzling, so I'm going to clean the house a bit and pay bills. Yawn...

I fried some bacon a little while ago, planning to make a Cobb salad for supper tonight and BLT tomorrow. Stupidly, I left it on the counter to cool. I then went into the living room and sat down to read a magazine.

After about ten or fifteen minutes, I heard a nar-nar-nar noise from the kitchen and immediately knew what happened. I went in and, yes, indeed, Skittles had quietly eaten several slices of bacon and was eating another, while simultaneously growling at Buster to get his own bacon!

Well, I have SOME bacon left, anyhow.

I made muffins for breakfast today (cinnamon streusel muffins... ooo!) Just to be sure they were done, I used a toothpick to check them, and carelessly left the toothpick on the kitchen counter.

When I came back later, there was only HALF a toothpick.

Here is the most likely suspect:

Very random entry, but then so is life.

Yesterday, I had a companion in the shower and did a lot of screaming, but unfortunately it wasn't the good kind! A centipede decided to join me. I HATE those things! They squirm and have too many legs and the way they keep on twitching after you smash them... UGH!! I have no pity for centipedes even they're supposed to be "good" bugs or whatever they are. Brr!

Today, I went to one of those enormous, several-football-field-sized grocery stores with my friend Rachel. I hadn't been shopping in a while, so I stocked up. I picked up some frozen chicken and Rachel got some ground beef, so in our trek around the store, she asked if she could put the chicken package on the ground beef to keep it cold. Well, we're so busy talking, guess who bought the chicken and where it went??? LOL! A bag of my groceries also were left for an hour on my trash cart--I didn't realize at first. Talk about absent-minded! :0

We also stopped at Sonic, which is new to the area. The cherry limeade (diet) is pretty good.

When I finally settled down with a sandwich tonight, the cats (especially Buster) tried to take it away from me. I don't know why--it was just a cheese and garlic sausage sandwich! And they had already eaten!

Boring day. But boring is sometimes good. :)

I'm trying to stay upbeat and positive this new year, really, but tonight I'm sad. I had to put Tiki down. He got cast (fell and couldn't get up without falling again) for the second time in a week. He's been arthritic for a long time. You may remember when I retired him.

Now, dear Tiki, who taught me to jump courses, who took me to my first dressage show, who loved me so unconditionally and was there for me through so many, many bad times, is gone. I miss him already.

This has been a rather crummy year for me--several bad injuries, severe allergic reactions, and the big one--Dad dying. But instead of dwelling on that, I'm going to attempt to keep positive. I love ALL of you. I could NOT have made it through the tough times without each and every one of you. :) :)

In keeping with the positive frame of mind, I decided to post a festive photo. I laugh every time I look at it. I hope you do, too. I have more in the same vein, so if you like it, just let me know and I'll put them up!!!

(No kitties were harmed in the shooting of this picture...)

Ho ho ho and all that jazz...

HoHoHo
