Jul. 20th, 2007 12:23 pmI just took my 16-year-old Siamese cat to the vet because he had what I thought was an inflammation of the gums. Not so unusual in an older cat, he needed his teeth cleaned. But the vet told me it's actually a growth and might be cancer! I almost fainted, I'm not kidding. Solomon means so much to me; he was there for me 24/7 when my mom died in November, constantly sitting in my lap and doing his best to comfort me. I don't know what I'd do without him! He's my little boy and I love him so much! He's a very cuddly, affectionate cat and this was such a huge surprise; it was a tremendous body-blow and I'm in shock. I can't bear the idea of losing my baby kitty. Please, send us good thoughts, prayers, good vibes; we can sure use them!

Date: 2007-07-20 10:29 pm (UTC)He's 16. Odds are they won't do much as far as treatment. They might be able to sauter it off and keep it from bothering him. Even if it is cancer that doesn't mean that he will drop dead. You'll know when it's gone too far, and as long as he is happy and comfortable then don't let it trouble you. I know it's no great solution, but don't assume cancer just b/c the chance exists. Wait for some bloodwork. (says the trained vet tech who burst into tears when her own dog had a lump, which is totally benign BTW)
