Well, Skittles, the cat who ate the dried poinsettia leaf, is doing fine. Either poinsettias aren't as poisonous as Poison Control would have us believe, she threw it up in some spot I haven't discovered yet, or she's superfeline and can digest poison and survive.

Or...there's the distinct possibility I have these odd cats that ingest substances that would kill ordinary cats and live. My grey tabby, Leia, ate a light bulb off the Christmas tree (why, I have no idea) and was fine. She timed it perfectly...we were all standing back to admire it after it was trimmed and there was a CRUNCH! We looked down to see her eating the last fragments of a red twinkle-light. It came through with no trouble. She then went on in later years to lick oven cleaner off oven racks (why???), begonia leaves (extremely poisonous), and Christmas tree icicles ("beads on a string"--figure it out). She lived to the ripe old age of twenty and a half years, so it did her no apparent harm.

I really don't know...

Hmm..one dried poinsettia leaf won't do a cat very much harm. Ingest most of the plant and she would have problems!

That's good to know. Of course, the real question is, why did she eat the leaf in the first place??? =:0

Like all good things that are bad for you, it probably tasted good. LOL!

I think you raise superbionic felines, personally. Glad she's okay! :-)

Thanks. I lean towards this explanation, too, personally! :)

Poinsettias aren't in essence poisonous unless you (or the cat rather) has an allergy to them. Poinsettias are like bee stings. They are both irritants and can cause inflammation, but if one doesn't have an allergy to them, one will be ok.

I guess she's not allergic, then. Just gave ME a heck of a turn, though! =:0

The leaves aren't nerl so potent when they are dried out so I'm sure that helped quite a bit. Glad she came through ok.

Thanks! I grew up thinking that poinsettias were very poisonous, so I had quite a bad couple of days! I don't know why she ate the leaves in the first place, though... *shakes head*

I'm so glad Skittles is okay! I know how much we worry but animals seem to be amazingly resilent... especially the ones who kept trying to have a death wish! LOL! :)

Thank you! I'm a HUGE worry-wart about my animals (well, everything, actually) but luckily she seems to be just fine! I still want to know WHY she ate the leaf in the first place...
